CARE GUIDE

Philodendrons are loved for their lush foliage, sculptural growth, and easy-going nature, making them one of the most popular and rewarding indoor plants. With the right care, they thrive beautifully and bring long-lasting tropical elegance into the home.

Follow these simple tips to keep your Philodendron thriving:

Light

Place in bright, indirect light for best growth and foliage colour. Many Philodendrons will tolerate lower light, but growth may slow, and variegation can fade. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Water

Water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry. Water thoroughly, allowing excess to drain away freely. Do not allow the plant to sit in water, as this can lead to root rot. Reduce watering in cooler months when growth slows.

Temperature

Prefers warm, stable temperatures between 18-26°C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid exposure to temperatures below 15°C.

Humidity

Enjoys moderate to high humidity, although most varieties adapt well to typical home conditions. Increased humidity will encourage larger, healthier leaves and more vigorous growth.

Potting / Soil

Use a well-draining, airy houseplant mix. A blend containing peat or coco coir with added perlite or bark works well to support healthy root development and prevent waterlogging.

Fertiliser

Feed every 2-4 weeks during the active growing season with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter when growth naturally slows.

Pruning

Prune to maintain shape, remove leggy growth, or encourage fuller growth. Cut just above a node to promote new shoots. Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves as needed.

Repotting

Repot every 1-2 years, or when the plant becomes root-bound. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the previous one to avoid excess moisture retention.

With consistent care, Philodendrons will reward you with lush, vibrant foliage and a timeless tropical presence in any interior space.
