CARE GUIDE
Epidendrum orchids, often called Reed-Stem Orchids, are hardy, colourful, and wonderfully easy to grow. They produce clusters of bright blooms on tall stems and can flower multiple times a year with the right care.
Light
Place in bright light. They can tolerate some direct morning sun and need strong light to bloom well.
Water
Water when the top of the potting mix begins to dry. Keep evenly moist but never soggy. Reduce watering slightly in cooler months.
Temperature
Prefers 18-28°C. Many varieties tolerate warmer conditions but protect from frost and temperatures below 10-12°C.
Humidity
Enjoys moderate humidity (40-70%) with good air circulation.
Potting Mix
Use a well-draining orchid bark mix. Some types can also adapt to a slightly finer mix, but excellent drainage is essential.
Fertilizer
Feed with orchid fertiliser every 2-3 weeks during active growth. Regular feeding encourages strong stems and repeat flowering.
Pruning
After flowering, cut the flower spike back if it dries out. Some varieties may rebloom from the same stem, so only remove it once fully finished. Remove any dead or yellowing leaves.
Repotting
Repot every 1-2 years or when the potting mix breaks down. Repot after flowering and when new growth begins.
