CARE GUIDE
Brassia orchids, often called Spider Orchids, are known for their dramatic, long, spidery petals and delicate fragrance. They’re relatively easy to grow and produce impressive sprays of blooms with the right care.
Follow these simple tips to keep your Brassia healthy and flowering beautifully:
Light
Place in bright, indirect light. They enjoy slightly brighter conditions than some orchids, with gentle morning sun being ideal.
Water
Water when the top of the potting mix begins to dry. Keep evenly moist during active growth but never waterlogged. Allow slight drying between waterings.
Temperature
Prefers 18–27°C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 12–14°C.
Humidity
Enjoys moderate to high humidity (50–70%) with good air circulation.
Potting Mix
Use a well-draining orchid bark mix. Brassias prefer good drainage but appreciate consistent moisture around the roots.
Fertilizer
Feed with orchid fertiliser every 2–3 weeks during active growth. Reduce feeding during cooler months.
Pruning
After flowering, cut the flower spike at the base. Remove any dead or yellowing leaves and dried pseudobulbs.
Repotting
Repot every 1–2 years or when the potting mix begins to break down. Repot after flowering and when new growth starts to appear.
