CARE GUIDE

Vanda orchids are admired for their large, vibrant blooms and striking aerial roots. They love bright conditions and reward good care with spectacular, long-lasting flowers.

Follow these simple tips to keep your Vanda thriving:

Light

Place in very bright, indirect light. Vandas can tolerate some direct morning sun and need more light than many other orchids to bloom well.

Water

Water frequently, especially in warmer months. If grown bare-root, soak the roots thoroughly 2–3 times a week (daily in hot weather). Allow roots to dry between waterings. Avoid letting them sit in water.

Temperature

Prefers warm temperatures between 20–30°C. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C.

Humidity

Loves high humidity (60–80%) with excellent air circulation. Misting roots can help in dry environments.

Potting / Mounting

Often grown in baskets with little to no potting mix, allowing aerial roots to hang freely. If potted, use a very coarse, fast-draining orchid mix.

Fertilizer

Feed weekly with a diluted orchid fertiliser during active growth (“weakly, weekly”). Reduce feeding slightly in cooler months.

Pruning

After flowering, cut the flower spike back to the base once it has finished. Remove only dead or completely dried roots.

Repotting

Repot or re-basket every 2–3 years, or when the plant outgrows its container. Avoid disturbing healthy roots unless necessary.
