CARE GUIDE

Ludisia, often called the Jewel Orchid, is grown more for its stunning velvety foliage than its flowers. Its dark leaves with shimmering veins make it a beautiful indoor plant that’s surprisingly easy to care for.

Light

Prefers low to moderate, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves. Ideal for shaded rooms or shelves away from bright windows.

Water

Keep the potting mix lightly and consistently moist. Water when the top layer begins to dry slightly, but never allow the plant to sit in soggy soil.

Temperature

Thrives in typical indoor temperatures between 18-26°C. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C.

Humidity

Enjoys moderate humidity but adapts well to normal home conditions. Extra humidity will encourage lush growth.

Potting Mix

Unlike many orchids, Ludisia grows in a fine, moisture-retentive mix. Use a blend of orchid bark, peat or coco coir, and perlite for good drainage while holding some moisture.

Fertilizer

Feed monthly with a diluted orchid or houseplant fertiliser during active growth.

Pruning

After flowering, trim the flower spikes back to the base. You can also pinch leggy stems to encourage bushier growth.

Repotting

Repot every 1-2 years or when the plant becomes crowded. Ludisia spreads horizontally, so a wider pot is often better than a deep one.
